King Charles III admitted to the hospital due to temporary side effects of cancer treatment | – The Times of India

King Charles III was briefly hospitalized on Thursday morning, Mar. 27, after experiencing ‘temporary side effects’ from his ongoing cancer treatment, Buckingham Palace said in a statement.
“Following scheduled and ongoing medical treatment for cancer this morning, The King experienced temporary side effects that required a short period of observation in hospital,” the palace said on Thursday.
The 76-year-old monarch returned to Clarence House later in the day, and after ‘a short period of observation’ in the hospital. Owing to this, King Charles’ afternoon engagements were postponed, a spokesperson said.
“His Majesty has now returned to Clarence House and as a precautionary measure, acting on medical advice, tomorrow’s diary programme will also be rescheduled,” the palace said. The King has also cancelled a tour of Birmingham on Friday, as a precautionary measure, acting on the medical advice.

“His Majesty was due to receive Credentials from the Ambassadors of three different nations this afternoon. Tomorrow, he was due to undertake four public engagements in Birmingham and is greatly disappointed to be missing them on this occasion,” the palace said. The King also sent his apologies to “all those who may be inconvenienced or disappointed” due to the postponement of his engagements and rescheduled his diary, the statement added.
The palace did not specify the nature of the side effects however, a source described it as a ‘most minor bump in a road that is very much heading in the right direction’.
King Charles’ cancer diagnosis was first announced by the palace in Feb. 2024. The palace, however, didn’t disclose what form of cancer the King has. It dismissed any link between the cancer diagnosis and treatment for a benign prostate condition.

The palace further stated that King Charles, who has generally enjoyed good health, “remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.”
The King chose to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding of all those around the world who are affected by cancer.

Despite his ongoing cancer treatment, King Charles didn’t let him be defined by his illness. He appears to thrive in meeting people, and continues to maintain a busy schedule, and has shown no signs of slowing down.
Recently, he was on a trip to Northern Ireland, where he launched a playlist of favourite music and attended the Commonwealth Day service, which he had missed last year after his cancer diagnosis.
Meanwhile, Queen Camilla did not accompany the King to the hospital on Thursday. She attended a reception in Wembley, north London.
