Bruce Glover, ‘Diamonds Are Forever’, ‘Chinatown’ actor dies at 92
Bruce Glover, the charismatic actor known for his memorable villainous turn in Diamonds Are Forever and his roles in Chinatown and countless TV classics, has passed away at the age of 92.
His son, Back to the Future star Crispin Glover, confirmed the news on Instagram, sharing a heartfelt tribute alongside old and recent family photos.
“Bruce Herbert Glover / May 2, 1932 – March 12, 2025,” he wrote, marking the life of a man whose career spanned decades and genres.
Born in Chicago during the Great Depression, Glover’s path to acting was anything but conventional.
While he initially considered careers in painting and football, fate had other plans. A fellow art student once recruited him to wear a nearly 100-pound gorilla suit for a burlesque act—an unusual gig that unexpectedly set him on the road to performance.
His ambitions were briefly put on hold when he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War, but he returned with a determination that led him to the stage.
In the 1960s, he graced Broadway, starring opposite legends like Bette Davis in The Night of the Iguana and Anne Bancroft in Mother Courage and Her Children.
Glover’s screen career kicked off in the late 1950s, leading to an impressive list of television appearances, including Perry Mason, Mission: Impossible, Mod Squad, Gunsmoke, S.W.A.T., The Streets of San Francisco, Battlestar Galactica, The Dukes of Hazzard, and The A-Team.
But it was his turn as the eerie assassin Mr. Wint in the 1971 James Bond classic Diamonds Are Forever that cemented his place in pop culture history.
He later appeared in Chinatown alongside Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway, The Thomas Crown Affair, Hard Times, and Ghost World, where he shared the screen with Steve Buscemi and a young Scarlett Johansson.
Glover’s passion for storytelling extended beyond his own career, as he collaborated with his late wife Betty, also an actress, and his son Crispin.
The father-son duo worked together on the 2007 indie drama It Is Fine! Everything Is Fine., which Crispin co-directed.
With a career that spanned over six decades, Glover remained a unique presence in Hollywood, known for his wit, eccentricity, and ability to make even the most menacing characters oddly endearing. His legacy lives on not only in his vast body of work but also in the impact he had on those who knew and admired him.
