In pics: Why is Cherry Blossom season celebrated in Washington DC? When and where to watch the beautiful blooms
The process through which cherry blossoms reach their full bloom is completed in six stages, as per the National Park Service. First, the round green buds appear, which develop into small florets. These develop, and peduncles (stalk of the flower) get elongated. Then appear the puffy white petals, which bloom and spread a pink hue all around.
