Palace shares vintage photo of Elizabeth, Charles, and Anne for Mother’s Day

King Charles honours Queen Elizabeth II with a rare childhood photo from 1956

The royal family is honouring the strong women in their lives for Mother’s Day.

On March 30, which is celebrated as Mothering Sunday in the UK, the royal family’s official Instagram account shared a touching throwback photo of King Charles and Princess Anne as children with their mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The black-and-white photo, taken at the 1956 Royal Windsor Horse Show, shows a young Charles and Anne sitting beside Elizabeth, then in her twenties. In the candid moment, the Queen appears to be showing the young prince something in a notebook while Anne looks on.

The post honoured the late monarch’s role as a mother and was a nod to her enduring legacy within the royal family.

The caption read, “Wishing all mothers, and those who are missing their mums today, a peaceful Mothering Sunday.”

But that wasn’t all. A second image also appeared in the post, this time in tribute to Queen Camilla’s late mother, Rosalind, alongside her eldest grandson, Tom.

Charles and Anne were the first two children of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, born in 1948 and 1950, respectively.

Their mother ascended the throne in 1952, shaping their early years with a life of royal duty. She passed away on September 8, 2022, at the age of 96.
