The pro-Khalistan group Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) organised a large-scale car rally in Fresno, California, where participants chanted anti-India slogans and protested Indian policies towards Sikhs and farmers.
The event, named “Kissan Hul Khalistan Car Rally”, aimed to raise awareness about the upcoming Khalistan referendum set to take place in Los Angeles, California, on March 23, 2025, under the presidency of Donald Trump.
According to SFJ, the rally drew over 500 vehicles, including cars and trucks, displaying pro-Khalistan banners and messages calling for Sikh sovereignty.
Protesters also carried placards depicting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in shackles, symbolising their demand for justice and political change.
SFJ leaders emphasised that the upcoming referendum in Los Angeles would be the first Khalistan vote held under the presidency of Trump, who asserts that freedom of speech and expression is a fundamental right in the United States.
“With President Trump in office, we have the right to freely express our demands for a separate Sikh state,” an SFJ representative stated during the rally.
The rally is part of a larger movement advocating for Punjab’s independence from India.
SFJ has long pushed for a Khalistan referendum, urging Sikhs worldwide to vote on the creation of a sovereign Sikh homeland.
The Fresno rally is one of several pro-Khalistan events organised across North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand in recent years.
SFJ has previously held referendums in Canada, the UK, New Zealand and other parts of the US, seeking to gauge global Sikh support for Khalistan.
With the March 23 referendum approaching, SFJ continues to mobilise support among Sikhs in California and beyond, positioning the Los Angeles vote as a critical step in their campaign for Khalistan.
