Sensex Today: Benchmark Indian equity indices ended higher on Wednesday ahead of US President Donald Trump’s anticipated announcement on reciprocal tariffs. The 30-share Sensex rose 592.93 points (0.78%) to close at 76,617.44, fluctuating between 76,680.35 and 76,064.94 during the session. The NSE Nifty50 followed suit, climbing 166.65 points (0.72%) to 23,332.35, after hitting an intraday high of 23,350 and a low of 23,158.45.
Market gains were driven by Zomato, Titan, IndusInd Bank, Maruti Suzuki India, and Tech Mahindra, which surged up to 4.75%, while Ultratech Cement, Nestle India, Bajaj Finance, Power Grid Corporation, and Bajaj Finserv declined by up to 1.36%.
Broader markets outperformed, with the Nifty Midcap100 rising 1.61% and the Nifty Smallcap100 gaining 1.12%.
All sectoral indices closed in positive territory, with the Nifty Realty index leading the charge, surging 3.61%, followed by gains of up to 2.51% in Consumer Durables, Banks, and Financial Services.
Global Cues
The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite both ended higher on Tuesday, following a turbulent day on Wall Street marked by investor uncertainty ahead of the Trump administration’s anticipated tariff announcements.
Financial markets have experienced volatility in recent weeks as investors have been weighing the potential economic impact of US President Donald Trump’s broad tariff plans, which have raised concerns about a slowdown in the US economy and rising inflation.
Markets in the Asia-Pacific region were mixed on Wednesday as investors await US President Donald Trump’s announcement of fresh trade tariffs later today.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 traded around the flatline with marginal gains of 0.02 per cent, while the Topix declined by 0.62 per cent. South Korea’s Kospi was behind by 0.3 per cent and the small-cap Kosdaq was lower by 0.72 per cent.
Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 was higher by 0.19 per cent.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index lost 0.47 per cent, and mainland China’s CSI 300 was ahead by 0.14 per cent.
