Indian stock markets were higher at open on Tuesday, amid firm global cues.

Sensex Today: Benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50 extended their gains for the second consecutive session on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, closing with over a 1% increase each. The 30-share Sensex reached an intra-day high of 75,385.76 before settling at 75,301.26, up by 1,131.31 points or 1.53% from its previous close.
Similarly, the NSE Nifty50 ended at 22,834, rising 325.55 points or 1.45%. The index traded between 22,845.95 and 22,599.20 during the session.
Bulls ruled Dalal Street, with all Nifty50 stocks, except Bajaj Finserv, Tech Mahindra, and Bharti Airtel, finishing in the green. Gains for individual stocks extended up to 3.35%.
Broader indices followed suit, with smallcap stocks leading the charge. The Nifty Smallcap100 index rose by 2.71%, while the Nifty Midcap100 index gained 2.10%.
All sectoral indices on the NSE closed in the positive, with gains of up to 3.62%.
Global Cues
As of 9:20 a.m. Tokyo time, S&P 500 futures showed little movement, reflecting a steady outlook in the U.S. stock market. Meanwhile, Asian and European futures showed positive momentum. Hang Seng futures saw a notable rise of 2.1%, signaling strength in Hong Kong’s equity markets. In Japan, the Topix index gained 1.3%, reflecting optimism in the country’s markets. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 also rose by 0.6%, indicating a positive start for the Australian stock market. Additionally, Euro Stoxx 50 futures increased by 0.4%, suggesting that European markets could see a positive opening. The broad upward movement across various futures markets indicates a cautious yet optimistic global outlook, with investors looking ahead to economic developments and earnings reports in the coming days.
