The GIFT Nifty, an early indicator of India’s equity benchmarks, is suggesting a positive opening for the Indian stock market on April 8, bouncing back from the lows seen on Monday.
On Monday, the Indian stock market suffered its biggest single-day decline in 10 months, driven by concerns over the economic impact of the global trade war initiated by US President Donald Trump’s tariff policies.
The Sensex dropped 2,226.79 points, or 2.95%, closing at 73,137.90, while the Nifty 50 fell 742.85 points, or 3.24%, to settle at 22,161.60.
GIFT Nifty Today
At 6:55 AM, the GIFT Nifty was trading around the 22,653 level, a premium of nearly 390 points over the previous Nifty futures close, indicating a positive start for the Indian stock market indices.
Global Cues
Asian markets traded higher on Tuesday, showing a sharp rebound from the losses in the previous session.
Japanese markets led the regional rally, with the Nikkei 225 rising 5.34% and the Topix climbing 5.53%.
South Korea’s Kospi gained 2.26%, and the Kosdaq rose 2.35%. However, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index futures indicated a weaker opening.
The US stock market closed mixed on Monday following President Donald Trump’s warning of additional tariffs on Chinese imports.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 349.26 points, or 0.91%, to close at 37,965.60. The S&P 500 declined 11.83 points, or 0.23%, to end at 5,062.25, while the Nasdaq Composite gained 15.48 points, or 0.10%, closing at 15,603.26.
