Macrotech Developers Shares Surge
Shares of Macrotech Developers surged more than 7% on April 15 after a long-running legal dispute between brothers Abhishek and Abhinandan Lodha over the usage of the ‘Lodha’ brand was formally resolved through an amicable settlement.
As part of the agreement, both brothers will not claim any rights over each other’s businesses. They have also agreed to publicly clarify that their respective companies operate independently and are not associated with one another in any capacity.
The announcement sparked strong buying interest in Macrotech Developers, which in turn lifted the BSE Realty index by over 4%. All constituents of the index traded in the green, making it the best-performing sector of the day.
The dispute dates back to January 2025, when Abhishek Lodha — managing director and CEO of Macrotech Developers — filed a brand infringement lawsuit in the Bombay High Court against his brother Abhinandan Lodha and his firm House of Abhinandan Lodha (HoABL). Abhishek alleged that Abhinandan was using the ‘Lodha’ brand name to promote real estate projects in locations such as Goa and Ayodhya. The lawsuit also sought ₹5,000 crore in damages and an injunction to prevent HoABL from using the name.
In response, HoABL denied the accusations, claiming that references to the Lodha name were made by third parties such as brokers and not by the company itself.
The matter was referred to mediation, led by retired Supreme Court judge Justice R V Raveendran. As per the mediated settlement, Macrotech Developers retains exclusive rights to the ‘Lodha’ and ‘Lodha Group’ trademarks, while HoABL will exclusively use the brand name House of Abhinandan Lodha.
The two are sons of real estate tycoon and BJP politician Mangal Prabhat Lodha. Their fallout reportedly began after differences over financial strategy and business vision when they were both at the helm of Lodha Group. Abhinandan, who previously oversaw sales and finance, exited the firm in 2015. A family settlement was signed in 2017, in which Abhishek continued with Macrotech Developers, while Abhinandan branched out with his own ventures.
Following the 2025 legal dispute, their mother, Manju Lodha, intervened, writing a heartfelt letter urging both brothers to honour their prior agreement and cease hostilities. “Your father and I confirm that both of you have no right in any form in the other brother’s business or assets or shareholding,” she wrote, further instructing them to avoid making disparaging remarks or engaging in public disputes.
